I’m Not Just A Color

What do you see when you look at me?

Do you see HOPE?

Or do I look like a joke?

Do you see me? Or who I ought to be?

Or do you just see a color, or someone who has no power?

What do you see when you look at me?

I have dreams just like you.

I bleed just like you.

I love just like you.

I hurt just like you.

We both have roles in life.

I’m a daughter, a wife, a mother, a friend, a sister! MISTER

I’m so much more than you expect me to be.

I’m part of a race, not a disgrace.

I’m African American. Not just a specimen.

I was created the same way you were.

I live and breathe the same air you do.

I have rights just like you.

So next time you see me. I want you to remember that senses are made to be used, NOT selectively.

We both have a common factor and that’s living.

Even though you may have a hard time admitting.

So keep that in mind the next time we cross paths, I might not be so forgiving.

I’m not just ordinary. I’m extraordinary.

I’m beyond what you expect me to be.

My color doesn’t define my purpose.

But my PURPOSE defines my EXISTENCE.

So next time.. MISTER

Stop and look at my blisters.

Look at my determination, my dedication, my motivation…

Please excuse my frustration.

I don’t know what’s your fixation on color.

Let’ have a conversation about your confrontation because I’m tired of your allegations:

The word BLACK means the darkest color.

The result of absence

The complete absorption of visible light, but please I must reassure you I’m brighter than you may think.

There isn’t any darkness to who I am.

Rosa Parks didn’t fight to change the rules to equal rights on the buses and public facilities to just be remembered as a color.

Martin Luther King Jr. believed that peaceful refusal to obey unjust laws was the best way to bring about social change.

So he dedicated his life to achieving equality and justice for ALL Americans of ALL colors.

So as I was saying before …I’M NOT JUST A COLOR!!!

My past has paved a way for me to strive for change.

So as you still see black and white…I see plain ole ignorance.

Someone who’s still misinformed

BEWARE…BEWARE!!! CHANGE IS HERE!!!

Open your eyes and see color isn’t the problem.

It’s HATE…in the air!

It’s you not me…

Who’s ENTRAPPED by this society!
